hi greets from finland. Thx for sharing RC project diary it gave me some ideas that i needed. ive been collecting parts now past 2 years or so for my 1st RC car project. im using Weedeater engine and AngleGrinder Reduction gearangle box. Bicycle dynamo for Charging and lights etc ideas. Doing it on Budget and from salvaged free scrap so to speak.
Love your Tank rc idea and project. 4T small engine in it would sound awesome with some modding for sound and rpm...

Hey Nice job I love your work Kinda that ugly kid that only a mother can love but I wish I had your skills. Looks like a lot of fun the build and driving. In your chain saw buggy posting you mention getting air bubbles in the fuel from time to time. Not sure if you solved this or not but my two cents worth are coming your way
Get some foam like the kind in a seat cushion and some high density foam. place a layer of 12 inch high density foam on the frame where the tank sits on top of that place a layer of 1 inch seat cushion foam. I dont remember how your had secured the tank but if you used straps that go over the tank place a strip of high density foam between any strap and the tank. This will dampen the vibration that causes air bubbles. That is if it is vibration causing the problem. If you are using exhaust pressure to pressurize your tank use an extra 12 inches of tubing and coil it up. Zip tie it out of the way and this extra length will help reduce the puffing into the fuel tank and make for a more constant blowing of air pressure.
Though I have never scratch built a truck like this I have been building and driving small engine models for 20 years and I have learned a lot from trial and error.

I was wondering how to go about it and i ended up here so i checked it out very smart and i think i will give it a shot.. I was looking for pictures of a 1992 dodge shadow after someone offered it in a trade for my ford mustang that I posted on craigslist. I had a 1989 GMC S15 as my first vehicle. It was extended cab and had a 34 ton if you would believe that My father put over 180000 miles on it for work but it still runs till this day because he took care of it. Too bad we dont have it. Fix yes an AC drill starts the car perfectly. Alas a cordless DC drill doesnt have the RPMs to get the job done. So starting the car requires electricity which kinda stinks. Anything I build in the future will have a pullstarter. With the chainsaw I had it just wasnt possible without having a big honking pull starter assembly hanging off the side. |

I enjoyed your site. I wish I had taken pictures of all my cars like you have. I had several that I wish I had pics of now. My favorite part, and I can see I am not alone, is on your r/c car. It has gotten me to put my planes on the back burner and try to build one. It is difficult to see what kind of parts you used from those pics though. |

Looks GREAT!! Best idea i can give to really torque up the steering would to have 2 steering servos.
1 servo for each front wheel and run a bracket or strong wire from servo to servo so they are connected and work in unison. Two HAS to be stonger than one! You might have to play around with wiring or buy/make a custom "Y" harness to run the 2 servos from the one channel.
Just a thought...
Other than that i like what i see..very very much SO!!
OH!! ALSO.. DO YOU WANT INSANE SPEED?? (off course you do;-)) check out the sturmy-archer website for 8 speed bicycle drive hubs slap that puppy on and LOOK OUT i'd make a bet it'll top 100mph+ if geared correcly. This also has a built in brake...Food for thought..
